Great to see American BETHANIE MATTEK-SANDS, a 2015 and 2017 French doubles champ, win her first round singles match today at the French Open. Mattek-Sands, who has recovered from a potential career-ending knee injury at Wimbledon in 2017, defeated Sweden’s Johanna Larsson 6-4, 6-3. American tennis fans remember Bethanie’s great triumph when she and Jack Sock, won the 2017 Olympic mixed doubles gold medal in Rio. Cheers for Bethanie. Nancy Gill Mc Shea
Editors note: Bethanie’s recovery is truly a miracle. Those of us that were courtside at WIMBLEDON last year, or almost anywhere on the grounds of the All England Club, heard her scream in agony as she basically broke her knee.
She beat all odds.
It took hours and hours and days, weeks and months of brilliant surgery and amazing rehab that she can walk normally. But even more amazing that she is back. She is hitting the ball as clean as ever. She is bionic and amazing. We all send our big congrats!
